April 23, 2008 report April 23, 2008: Bangalore and Mysore - SEMINAR ON TIBET CAUSE The South Zone Tibetan Solidarity Committee has organized a seminar on Present Crisis in Tibet and role of India & International Role at Kalamandir, Mysore on April 19, 2008. The two day program consisted of a seminar on the present crisis in Tibet on the first day and a Photo exhibition, documentary screening and India & International Roles on the second day. Group Captain Mr. Rajagopal, President of ITFS Mysore & Mr. P.K. Devaiah, President of ITFS Bylakuppe spoke about present crisis in Tibet. Mrs. Tsering Youdon, a member of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile spoke about India’s role and its effect and document screening followed in the afternoon. The documentary films shown were on Current crisis in Tibet, Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion and the Escape from Tibet. Dapon (Retd) Kunga Dorjee, Chief Representative, Mr. Tashi Wangdu, the Representative of Lugsam & Delar along with Mr. Choephel Thupten, special assistant was present to co-host the seminar. The seminar received coverage in The Times of India, Indian Express & the Hindu newspaper on April 19, 2008. Mysore - The Chinese tyranny over Tibet would pose a serious threat to Tibetan culture and its people, said Rajagopal, member of Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society. Speaking at a seminar on the current crisis in Tibet here on Saturday, he said that Tibet is culturally rich and also on good terms with many foreign countries including India. Rajagopal said that it is high time that India, with international support took up the cause of a Free Tibet. Mahajan Education Society, President, R Vasudev Murthy said that every individual should play an active role to save and free Tibet. PHOTO EXPO ATTRACTS CROWDS: The photo exhibition and documentary 'Crackdown on Tibet' on March 10, screened at Kalamandir attracted a huge number of Tibetans and local population. The documentary depicts the history of Tibet from 1938 and their struggle for freedom from 1959, the Chinese brutality suppression of 1.5 million Tibetans and destruction of 6000 monasteries. The political prisoners are subjected to unimaginable torture including solitary confinement and brutal punishments. It also stresses the non-violence practiced by Dalai Lama and the Tibetan community. The horrifying picture on Chinese brutality and reactions of monks fearing for their life and the pictures of those killed by Chinese police and army have exposed China's continued human rights violation in Tibet. The Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society had urged the United Nations to send a delegation to probe the brutal crackdown on Tibet. April 20, 2008 Committee expresses solidarity with Tibetans Mysore: Expressing solidarity with Tibetans, the Tibetan Solidarity Committee, South Circle, on Saturday inaugurated the two-day programme that includes a photo exhibition, screening of documentaries and a seminar at Kalamandir. Through the programme, they want to appeal to the UN and international community to immediately dispatch an independent fact-finding delegation to Tibet. They are also demanding freedom of Press to cover the issue, end to brutal killings, and releases of all arrested and imprisoned Tibetans, extension of immediate medical assistance to the injured Tibetans and free movement of poeple to provide access to daily needs. A 30 minute documentary shows media clippings on alleged crackdown on Tibet by the Chinese regime from March 10 and protests by Tibetans against Chinese in Tibet. Three documentaries to be screened are 'Current crisis in Tibet', 'Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion' and 'Escape from Tibet'. The committee is circulating a DVD on the crackdown on Tibet that began last month. According to Tongkhor, a member of the community, they have distributed over 500 DVDs so far. Showing currency notes, silver and bronze coins displayed at the photo exhibition, Tongkhor claimed they belong to Tibet and this is enough to prove that Tibet is an independent state, he stated. Besides, downloaded photos of alleged violence and killings of Tibetans in Tibet were also on exhibited. A seminar was inaugurated on the current crisis in Tibet.
