World Prayer Day to commemorate the brutal Chinese crackdown in Tibet and condemn violence globally

In accordance with the declaration of April 6, 2008 as the World Prayer Day by the Tibetan Solidarity committee (TSC), the Delhi Chapter of TSC comprising of all the major Tibetan NGOs based in Delhi will be conducting a prayer service at Jantar Mantar from 8 am onwards to condone violence in general and the brutal Chinese atrocities in Tibet in particular.  This prayer service is being conducted globally with His Holiness presiding over it in Dharamsala.

The Tibetan freedom movement has been consistently non-violent and peaceful both in and outside Tibet. Of late, the Chinese authorities are aggressively using their propaganda machinery alleging Tibetans of resorting to violent methods and even going as far as accusing Tibetans of plotting suicide squads and engaging in other terrorist like activities. This is China's strategy to undermine the Tibetan movement and the wide global support enjoyed by the Tibetan non-violent and peaceful struggle.

The world is witness to the brutal acts of violence committed by the Chinese government since March 10th (49th Anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day) when Tibetans spontaneously launched peaceful protests starting from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. The protests rapidly spread all over Tibet including Tibetan areas incorporated in the Chinese provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan, Qinghai and Gansu. The Chinese clampdown of the protests has led to 142 known deaths, over 500 injured and over 1500 arrested. 26 days hence, Tibetans are facing martial law like situation with all monasteries and major Tibetan streets sealed off by the Chinese security forces. Chinese authorities have targeted all communication devices to prohibit Tibetans from communicating outside of Tibet.
